Directeur's Welcome

Welcome to the Château de Sauveterre website, which I hope you gives you an idea of the incredible opportunity of spending a term here with us.

Since 1990, the Château has been welcoming children to the Gers, close to Toulouse in the South of France, to spend a term immersed in French language and culture.

The school is set in beautiful forested grounds, where on a clear day you can see the snow peaked mountains of the Pyrenees, and the buildings themselves retain much of their original charm from having been a private home. The Château was acquired with all of its original furnishings and paintings, and simply walking down the corridor gives one a real flavour of being in an old French Building.

A term at Sauveterre is often seen to be the highlight of a child’s education. We make the most of the climate here to be outdoors as much as possible. Progress in French is achieved through subject specific classes taught by a team of experienced and dedicated native teachers, all delivered in the target language. We get the children out into local villages and schools as often as we can, so that they can have those "authentic" interactions as much as possible. There is also an established weekend exchange programme with a secondary school in Toulouse that children can volunteer for.

Outside the classroom, our team of enthusiastic Gap Year students take over under the tutelage of M. Stacchini, delivering a wide variety of sports and activities, both traditional and unique to Sauveterre. My wife and I, along with our two young sons, live in the Chateau and Mme Bower oversees all of the pastoral and medical side of life here. Due to the location, nature and size of the school, we really can claim to be an extended family!

Being part of the Cothill Educational Trust, a large proportion of our students come from schools within the Trust. However, Sauveterre takes students from all schools, and we have welcomed students from as far afield as Hong Kong, Cyprus and Louisiana.

Personally, I am incredibly proud to be in charge of such a unique school, and there is nothing more rewarding than to see the growth in stature, confidence and independence of the students that come here in the three months they are with us.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to know more, I would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about our school.

Merci, et à bientôt,

Richard Bower
