Château de Sauveterre Château de Sauveterre

A term of cultural and linguistic education in the South of France

Autumn Term

Term: September - December
Length: 12 Weeks
Half term break: 12 days (October)
Trust Schools: Cothill House & Ashdown House, Year 7
Open to Girls & Boys, Year 6-8 - Any school.

The Autumn Term marks the start of the academic year and Sauveterre welcomes Year 7s from both Cothill House & Ashdown House. The Autumn term is also open to both girls and boys from any other school and is the longest of the 3 terms, being 12 weeks. The length of term allows for students to gain the most progress in both their written and spoken French.

The beginning of term feels like an extension of Summer, with sunshine and warm weather most days, allowing the children to spend many afternoons cooling off in the pool after a tough sports session. One of the other highlights is the opportunity for the children to learn about and take part in the ‘vendanges’ (grape-picking) to make wine from our very own vineyard.

After a well-earned half term break, the students return to the Chateau and will notice the change in the weather - the sun begins to set earlier and the cool air spurs on the feeling that Winter is approaching. For a lot of the students, this half of term features many stand-out moments, from Bonfire night to our big Christmas feast. Academically, the French progress is notably outstanding at this point in the term and the students are truly settled and embracing the French culture.

It all seems to come to an end far too quickly and before we know it, we are saying Au Revoir to another group of Sauveterrians.

“Sauveterre is the most exciting thing that happened to my child in his life so far; he was immensely lucky to be given such a fantastic opportunity and I know he will never forget it.”
