Boarding and Pastoral
As a full boarding school, pastoral care is at the forefront of everything we do. Over many years, we have become accustomed to welcoming students to their new environment and ensuring that they receive the individual care and nurturing that is needed. Richard and Amanda Bower ultimately oversee the pastoral care of all students and are assisted by the Assistant du Directeur, Eddie Stacchini as well as our resident House Parents, Clancy Strickland and Jack Murphy. In addition, each term Sauveterre welcomes a team of Gap Assistants who act as mentors for our students. They assist with pastoral care, supervision at night, sport and activities. Each of the boarding houses have live-in staff who are accessible 24/7 if required.
At Sauveterre, we encourage the students to undergo a digital detox. Therefore, children do not bring any mobile phones or electronic devices (with the exception of watches, cameras and kindles). Each student is provided with a Sauveterre email address, which they can access daily and communicate with friends and family abroad, as well as use Skype. In addition, twice a week (Sunday and Wednesday) students write letters to their families. Sauveterre also has a phone line for the students, which they can use upon request. We do, however, try to limit the calls to one per week, to ensure everyone has a fair chance of speaking with home. Staff are also always happy to speak with parents, via phone or email, to provide them with updates on how their child is settling and progressing.
“If you start off a bit wobbly and homesick that's absolutely normal but you’ll learn and grow and it will just become like a really big family with everyone. It’s amazing.”
