Château de Sauveterre Château de Sauveterre

A term of cultural and linguistic education in the South of France

Summer Term

Term: April - July
Length: 10 Weeks
Half term break: 1 week (May)
Girls only 2020 (Mixed 2021): Year 6-8, any school.

The Summer term is a special one for all who seize the opportunity and it offers a chance for many girls to experience boarding for the first time. The term is open exclusively to girls, most of whom are Year 6 and have just completed their entrance exams, however we are also open to a small group of older girls who can enjoy more responsibilities and certain extra privileges.

Students who join us during this time, utilise their Summer term by experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity, learning about and embracing French language and culture.

The weather promises sunshine, long hours of daylight and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the pool and our stunning grounds. We also make the most of our enviable location, and go on many excursions to beautiful and exciting places, including beach trips to the Mediterranean, local markets and hikes in the Pyrenees. The school lawn is often home to many magnificent gymnastic displays or relaxed down time with a book. A highlight of the term is always the end of term Spectacle where the students produce and perform a fantastic concert for staff and local guests.

As the majority of girls who join us for the Summer term do not know anyone, or many others before arriving, the Sauveterre experience is a perfect opportunity to make new friends. Sauveterre is also a special chance to try boarding for the first time. Other than the outstanding academic progress made in French, Sauveterre offers a unique way in which it truly helps develop each student’s character, confidence and independence.

As the academic year draws to a close, the girls excitedly return home to their families, filled with lasting memories and many stories to share. The end of term is marked by an invitation to participate at the Cothill House Sports Day, providing an excellent opportunity for families to meet up with new friends and many of the staff.

“The summer term at Sauveterre afforded our girls the opportunity to make sense of education.  After the rigours of the 11+ it somehow seems to have consolidated their understanding of what the hard work was all about, and left them in a position to make the most of their secondary education.”
